Kade's Doctors Appointment

Yesterday Kade and I had our post-delivery check up. Zack and Shaylie were able to go with us. They weighed me first...ick...took my blood pressure then measured and weighed Kade. At 7 weeks old he is 22 inches long and weighs 11 pounds 4 ounces, almost double is birth weight! His head measured 14 1/2 inches. For height he is 31%, Weight 57% and head...6% :) just a short, fat, small headed thing! Doctor checked all his other parts (ears, nose, mouth, spine, hips, feet, soft spots, etc) and he was perfect! After cluing us into what he should be doing in the next few months, It was my turn. Zack took Kade out to change his diaper, so Shay stayed in the room with me and read a book (green eggs and ham, she loves "cat in the hat" books!) Long story short, I'm healing great! When they were done Zack came back in and asked the doctor to look at Kade's circumcision. Doctor Taylor said that part of it was starting to connect again and he and Zack took Kade into the room next to ours (while I changed back into my clothes) to fix it. I could hear him crying through the wall and it broke my heart! I came prepared for shots but not that! I, of course, started to cry but had to be composed for Shay. Zack brought him back in all calmed down. I was not happy with myself (kind of figure it to be my fault...) but Zack is good at making me feel better. Then our nurse, Lisa, came in to give Kade his shots. she gave him the Rotavirus first, which was oral so that was nice. Then he got three shots in his legs, HIB, PVC, and Pediarix (DTaP, IPV, and Hepatitis B). He screamed like he was dying. But he calmed down quickly. I gave him some Tylenol before we got there, so I'm making my self feel better by saying it helped. We scheduled our next appointment for June 8th (when he's 4 months old). We dont think we'll still be here then but, we'll see! I also got a prescription for new birth control, which I'm pretty nervous about. Doctor Taylor said, these are pills that you CANNOT miss. Its the mini pill so its different than the one I was taking before. I'm just terrified of getting pregnant again. Which reminds me, I need to write down Kade's birth story. I've already written it down on paper, but I need to get it onto the computer. Hopefully soon, so all will know of that great adventure!
After the doctor, we went to our neighbors for a surprise birthday party. We didn't stay long because I think the pain finally hit my poor baby. Kade started to cry and didn't stop for about 2 hours. It hurt Zacks heart. You really tell the difference between cry to get something, and crying in pain. He was hurting. Shay fell asleep around 9. She's been showing signs of getting sick again, and I'm not excited about it. I feel bad for her. Luckily, she's learning how to blow her very well, so that helps! She told Nana on skype that "Shaylie's nose sick. Mommy's neck sick too. Yeah." She's so cute. Tonight we actually had to put the humidifier on and fill the room with Vicks medicine stuff. Hopefully it helps. Lincoln and Audree were here tonight, to visit, with both us and each other. I'm excited for them to get married. They really are happy with each other. My Aunt Denise (audree's mom) called me tonight and we talked for a good bit. She's such a wonderful person too. I've been blessed with good family members. I miss my mom a lot when I talk to Denise, even though I just talked (and saw via skype) with my mom earlier today. I"m so excited to see her in less than a month! She bought her tickets and will be out here on the 27th of April!
Another day done! Bring on the night!

Kade's blessing day

Yesterday was Kade's blessing day! The day went very smoothly and I did good not getting worked up like I've been known to :) Tami, Josh, and Jackie came down saturday evening and we went wedding dress shopping for Jackie. Josh and Zack took the kids around the mall and shay ended up wetting her pants while playing in some water (guess she didn't stand a chance!). I was very happy to be in the bridal store at that point! Sunday morning went well. I was worried about having 5 adults to get ready plus two kids and only one bathroom but it worked out! We picked up the house and did our best to make room for all the people that would be coming. Mallory showed up early with her friend Steve, followed closely by Tori and Andy. We took some blessing pictures and got to the church about 5 minutes before it started. From my side was Reid (and his family, Susie and Abby), Tim, Lena (and her family, Scott and scotty), Josh (with Jackie) and Tami. From Zacks side was his parents, Mallory (and steve), Tori and Andy, Justin and Caitlin, Lincoln and Audree, and Aunt Shela (uncle mike). Our little neighbors came too, Chris Brindy and Lydia, and Jake, Katie and Leah. I was pretty nervous before Kade was blessed (dont really know why...) but the more nervous I seemed to be the less nervous it made Zack so it worked out! The blessing was short but sweet. He was blessed to be a leader and example to his family and others, that he had many things to accomplish and would with the lords will and power, blessed with health, a strong testimony of the gospel which he would share with his siblings and others, and blessed to know right from wrong. He was of course given a name, which is now officially Kade Zacheriah Port! He slept the whole time and was wonderful! Zack was weepy when he sat back down, but he did so good! What a good daddy to be able to do that for his son! While I was trying to write down key parts of his blessing, Shay was sitting on Tami's lap (who was also trying to write things down) and kept saying, "mom, dad go?" Mom, kade gone!" Mom, daddy help? Go." Mom, dad go?" So my notes are a bit botchy but we get the general idea! Those who stood in the circle were Zack, Josh, Reid, Lincoln, Richard, Uncle Mike and Andy. After sacrament we went to our house and had sub sandwiches. They turned out nice and everyone seemed to get along and talked amongst themselves. I really missed my family, and wish they could have been there. They've missed both blessings, but at least half of them were there this time! I guess I'll take what I can get! Shay missed her nap in the afternoon and completely crashed at 4:30. I had to wake her up at 5, which she was not happy about, so that she would go to bed at a decent hour. Kade didn't sleep well during the day since he was being held most the time, so he was pretty grumpy when everyone left. Lincoln and Audree stayed later to spend some time together, so Zack and I went back to Shays room and just talked. It was nice to have some time together. Overall, it was a very nice day. Wore us out! Kade's day went off without a hitch! Our little family is very lucky to have him in our lives. We're very grateful for this beautiful perfect spirit God so willings put before us. We love him from the bottom of our hearts.

Finally Friday!

Another week is ending. It seems a lot longer when you're up most of the night feeding little people :) Both the kids are asleep now so I'm taking the opportunity to report! Shay had a potty accident last night, but I was feeding Kade so Zack had to deal with it...I enjoy watching him struggle with things I get to deal with (and struggle with) on a daily basis. I think its good for him. Shay was darling yesterday with her stuffed animals. She was 'nursing' them, putting them in diapers and then rocking them in Kade's swing. She's a little mommy in training! Also makes me very aware that she is watching what I'm doing...hope I'm setting a good example! We are trying to get things together for Kade's blessing on Sunday. Its a pain really. We have to feed over 20 people and the only place we can get together is in our little duplex. I tend to get a bit anxious and overwhelmed when I have lots of people over. Not to mention everyone is going to be wanting to hold Kade and play with shay (who will probably be missing a nap because of it). I"m glad I can nurse Kade as an excuse to get him away from people. I have nothing to use for Shay. I don't want either of them getting sick because of this! Just mommy worries I guess! I'm excited for him to be blessed, but I'll be glad when its over. I really wish my parents and Nate could be here for it. I miss them a lot. I'm so glad we can Skype and actually see each other that way. I was able to see/talk with my dad today over Skype. He's been traveling for the last week. He looked good and I love talking with him. I enjoy bragging about how things are going :)
Zack was observed by the Assistant principal yesterday and he's going to write a letter of recommendation for him either toady or Monday. He also got an email from Littlefield Arizona asking him to send in an application! He met with them at the Teachers Fair but didn't interview with them. He gave them his resume and then they emailed us! He seems very excited about this. We'll see where it leads but my first choice is still Star Valley Wyoming. It'll be interesting to see what our future holds!

Zacks Final Overview

Yesterday Zack met with his Student Teaching supervisor for a final review of his teaching. Zack scored completely proficient in 20 of the 22 skill areas and was only point 5 off of the other two. The supervisor gave a very flattering report of Zack and I thought I'd let the world know just how great my husband really is! "Zack loves to teach and is highly motivated to the best he can be. He has tremendous enthusiasm and puts great energy into his lessons. He is always very well prepared and has a variety of activities. He has a great ability to put together activities that are appealing to his students and therefore they are eager to participate. Zack has a genuine love for his students. He smiles, laughs, banters, and is very positive with students. His attitude towards students brings rewards because they respond well to his directives. Zack will be an outstanding teacher and I highly recommend him." It does my heart so good to know that others see how amazing he really is. It blows my mind how far he has come! He's worked so hard to make a better life for our little family. We owe him everything.

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

Not very much to report today. Kade had a terrible night last night. He woke up ever hour and a half to eat and I had a hard time putting him back to sleep. Zack was also up real early making his lesson plan so both of us were very tired. Zack was observed by his supervisor who told him he was an amazing teacher! He said he could see the love Zack had for teaching and for history. He has a meeting with him tomorrow as a final overview. I was helping Zack grade some papers about the Great Depression and the Dust bowl, I had a question (of course now I cant remember what that question was) and he was just full of information! He was giving me exact dates, times and details of events. He really is amazing, and I'm so very impressed! I could never retain that much information!
Kade is six weeks old today! That went by really fast! Looking back it really wasn't that long ago, but my little man has changed so much in that short amount of time! He's so big now! We dont have our doctors appointment until next week, so I'm going to have to wait to see how much he's grown!
I french braided Shays hair today and it actually turned out cute! My mom sent me this cute website with cool ways to do hair and I got inspired! I just wing it with her hair :) She was able to watch "Meno" (Finding Nemo-her very most favorite movie currently) today and she showed Zack how smart she was by telling him the color of M & M's. I started asking her what color M & M I was holding and if she got it wrong I ate it, if she got it right, she got the M & M. Its working amazingly well! We also had no potty accidents, but she always seems to do really good then one day it all back tracks. But she was good today so I wont complain!
I was able to text Jackie (Josh's new fiancée) today and she is wanting to go with a Frank Sinatra theme for the wedding. We went to the antique store in Springville to see ht we could find but there was nothing good. Lincoln met up with us there and we talked about combining our phones so the bill would be less. I'm pretty sure we're going to do it! Until tomorrow!

Monday, March 21, 2011

Our week begins! Monday is laundry day at our house and i'm beginning to think there might be something wrong with our washer. It smells terrible whenever I wash clothes but the clothes come out smelling just fine. I've been putting a cleaner in it to help and it seems to work for the day...it just stinks again the next week. But I figure we'll be moving soon so I can put up with it until then.
I'm thinking that today Kade's tummy hurts. I'm praying its not because of the chocolate I ate yesterday. I dont know if I can give that up! I already had to give up my orange soda...Guess I like him a little bit! Kade has been constantly wanting to be held today, which, sometimes, I'm so glad he does. But its rather hard to fold clothes and do dishes holding a baby that cant even hold up his own head. Shay has been pretty good today. A little 'fussy-butt' really, but it makes me proud. We were able to skype with Nana (which is becoming a daily thing), and we love it! I'm glad she can see her babies growing up. Shay took her nap on time today and went to bed before 8:30pm.
We went to the store when zack got home because I was down to NO wipes. Of course we ended up buying much more than planned. That always seems to happen when Zack goes shopping with me...We saw one of his students at the store and I thought it was the cutest thing to hear them call him "Mr. Port." Its natural for him, but to me he's either Zack or daddy! After the store we went and saw Caitlin and Justin in their new apartment. Its only a few blocks away from us, its nice to have them close. We had pizza and talked. It was nice and relaxing. Caitlin let me borrow her Zumba dvd's just to try out to see if I liked them. Turns out I cant move like I used to! I got tired just learning how to do the moves! But I'm all about losing weight this time around, so I'll keep at it!
Zack is being observed for the last time by his supervisor tomorrow. He's franticly putting together his lesson plan. He only has one more observation by his cooperating teacher then he's done with them! Only 2 1/2 more weeks left before he's done Student Teaching! I cant believe we're getting so close!
Since both my little ones are asleep I should probably be doing so as well! Until tomorrow!

Sunday March 20, 2011

Today was our first attempt at staying at church for all the meetings since Kade was born. We all looked so cute and we were actually able to get a bench seat, which is usually pretty rare. After we had the sacrament Shaylie wanted her snack, which she inhaled, and then of course wanted ours. We told her she'd already had some and then the tantrum began...kicking and screaming Zack carried her out while I sat and heard (along with the rest of the ward) "No Daddy! No Daddy! No Daddy!" If she didn't do that all the time, I'd have felt bad! She kicked so hard one of her shoes fell off, but within a minute of being outside she calmed down and came back in a perfect child. Kade of course slept. Shay went to nursery, with a few tears and a little bribing. She's the biggest kid in there (also the oldest), and the only one that throws a fit every time. I like to think its because she likes being with me so much but...we all know its not the truth. Zack and I took Kade to sunday school with us. I had to leave half way through to feed him and missed the whole second half. It was the first time I'd used the mothers room (since I only nursed shay for a month). It was pretty exciting to me. There was a picture of Christ on the wall and I felt awkward facing it :) My mom laughed when I told her I actually had to turn the chair away. Guess I'm a little weird with some things! During relief society Kade was awake and fussed every time I sat down, so I spent that whole hour standing in the back bouncing him. It was ward conference today (new bishopric) and the stake president was speaking to the women. During his testimony, possibly the quietest time that hour, while everyone was weeping and feeling all spiritual, my Port son decided to fill his diaper...loudly! I was so very embarrassed! Lots of moms looked at me all understanding-like and even more looked around shocked! All I could do was turn red and smile! Quite the church experience.
After church and a nap for Shay, we went over to Lena's house for a get together with the Utah cousins, Uncle Scott and Aunt Debbie, and Great Uncle Merlin and Aunt Sandy. It was very nice to chat with everyone and see Uncle Merlin. I'm told that he and my Papa Johnson were quite a bit alike. He talked to us about my Papa and told us some fun stories. I wish I could have known him better. Everyone talks so highly about him and I feel a little jipped to missed out. All in good time I'm sure! It was great to see and talk with Uncle Scott too. He reminds me of my dad, who I miss all the time, and its nice to have a little since of home. We came home not too long ago, and after feeding the bottomless pit of a boy, and getting my very picky girl in her jamies, they are now in bed. Zack seems to thrive off waiting til the las minute to write his lessons plans, so he's in the living room now working hard.
Speaking of his work, on Friday was the teachers job fair and Zack went fully prepared to find us a job. He interviewed for a job in Wyoming (star valley) that I am really hoping for! They wont get back to us for about a month but my fingers are crossed! He also submitted about 15 resumes in Wyoming, Arizona, Utah, and (get this...) Virginia. Utah pays the least, and Wyoming the most, so thats the one we're hoping for! Just and update on the job front!
Well since I have two sleeping babies I really should be asleep. Lets see if I'm good and actually write tomorrow!
I'm once again going to attempt this blogging thing! The main reason is because my babies are growing up so fast and I'm kind of a slacker at the journal thing so I figured this would help me make it fun and possibly make me want to write things down! So cross your fingers for me and lets see if we can make this work!
