My Quirky Daughter

This is kind of a funny story. My family, and many others, believe me to be a bit...OCD when it comes to certain things. I've always joked that it just makes me a better person, even though it seems to annoy most people :) Last fall I took a psychology class where I learned about an OCD something or other that is a sign of a mental handicap. That 'something or other' was the need to put things in rows. Lining things up over and over again. Now just to be clear, Shaylie does not have a mental disorder :) She's just a little OCD like someone else...Anyways, I brought this subject up with Zack when we noticed Shaylie doing this...

These are her new pull ups...

She how hard she works...

To put them in such straight and perfect lines...

and to freak out her daddy just a little bit...

At first Zack was super worried when it dawned on him that Shaylie does this with cookies before she eats them, stickers on a paper, beads, books, stuffed animals, etc. But I think I finally convinced him that she's just a little quirky :)

(make sure to read the last blog I posted! Cute pictures!)

New Pictures!

So about a week ago we had our neighbor and friend (Brindy Bennett) take some pictures of Shaylie and Kade for us (mostly Kade since we were inside). They turned out way cute! Cant resist showing off my perfect little babies!

Two little angels...and they like each other! I think this picture is priceless.

Really no words need to be said for this picture. She's got some sass, and now I have proof!

Love her big Johnson eyes! They are one of the few things I can claim. Eyes and hair!

LOVE! As a mommy, this is so precious to me!

This one is Zacks favorite! We got the little jug from josh which he found at an antique fair.

My healthy, happy little man! Check out those lovely rolls!

He was tired of holding up his head, but still turned out cute!

I love it when he makes this face. Hands can be so fascinating to little people!

Very first picture of the day. He was a trooper!

This past week

So I'm a bit of a slacker and its taken me a week to sit back down and do this. I blame Zack though! He's been home this whole week and on the computer most of the time so that makes it difficult for me to inform the world. He's been working really hard though. Last Monday we spent most of the day looking for jobs. Tuesday he was on the computer most the day finishing his Senior project. Wednesday he was literally on the computer ALL day and, when he turned in his project wednesday night (17 pages long...), it still wasn't done. Luckily his teacher said that a lot of students haven't been able to complete it on time because of student teaching so he extended the dead line until the 20th (this wednesday)! We all went fishing on thrusday with Justin and Caitlin. It was an uneventful trip. Enjoyed the company but caught no fish...and it was pretty windy so Kade was upset about that. There was a little park with toys close by and Shaylie took Zack to play on them. She really enjoys him. However, earlier in the week her and Zack went the rounds. She very loudly and rudely yells 'no' now and Zack was under just enough stress that her talking back to him made him upset, which fired her up more and so on and so forth! Its funny though because I've noticed that whenever one parent loses it the other one somehow has amazing patience all of a sudden! I had to step in and send them both to their rooms, but once they both cooled down it was like it had never happened! Kade of course had no idea there was ever any problem! We think he may be starting to teeth already. He's getting fussy randomly, drools a lot, and sucks on his fist. When he's not fussy, he's a joy to be around! He's all about smiling and 'talking.' He's getting better and better at holding up his little head. It pretty obvious though when he's tired...his head droops! Shay is still so good with him! She pats his head so nice and says "Hi, buddy!" Which I've noticed I say too. Speaking of Shay copying people, her new phrase is ,"oh heck!" Which i think is suppose to be "oh my heck" I didnt think we said it very often but...obviously we do! She accidently went to the bathroom while in the bath tub (my fault-she told me she had to go I just I didn't get to her fast enough), and from the other room I heard, "Oh heck mommy! Oh heck! Mommy, shaylie opps. Heck mommy!" I thought it was funny until I walked in and saw what she was 'oh hecking' about. Motherhood is disgusting sometimes! We had justin and Cailtin over again on Friday night, we went out to dinner then when we were about to go in different directions...our car wouldn't start. Justin and Zack jumped the car and we decided to worry about it the next day. They came to our house and watched a movie later that night. Saturday...Caitlin and I went shopping for Audree's bridal shower. It was a lot of embarrassing fun! We also looked for dress's for the wedding but came up with nothing there. During this adventure, Shay stayed with her daddy and uncle justin and We took Kade with us (since I had to feed him). I had to change him and decided to do in Caitlin's nice brand new kia sorento...what was I thinking! of course, with my luck, he messed on her brand new seats! Went through his clothes through the blanket (which was folded twice) and on to her seat. I'm still kicking my self! She was a great sport about it though and told me not to worry about it! Zack tried real hard to get it out when we got home. We're pretty sure it worked, but only time will tell. I'm still embarrassed! After that we went and met Kayla and her little family at Cracker barrel. It was a short visit but nice to see them. Then we went back home (justin and Caitlin came back over) and we watched the new Harry potter movie! Zack got it for me as a surprise! He's so good like that! We also found out that our battery in the toyota was dead so we got new one (which was needed) then it worked for a little bit then stopped again. It turned out it was a connection something or other...$5...yay!

On the job front, we have applied for 5 new jobs. One in Wyoming, two in Utah, and two in Arizona. We're keeping our fingers crossed!

A New week

So if you haven't figure out by now...we didn't get the job I was so very excited about in Wyoming. It had been filled on Thursday by someone from Idaho. I was pretty bummed. I think I knew we wouldn't get it but I was still so excited because I thought it was perfect! But like my dad says, it just wasn't where we were suppose to be. On friday we applied for a job in Vernal (which makes my ad very happy since his dad's side of the family settled there), and on Saturday we applied for one in Page Arizona. I have a notebook full of jobs I have found Zack and we plan to apply for all of them. Yesterday the Ports had a birthday thing for Mallory and Caitlin. We were pretty busy and tired so we just stopped in for an hour or so. I really like Caitlin quite a bit. We get along well and enjoy sharing our "woes" as Port women. :) Soon Audree will be part of that with us!
Church was LONG yesterday. We got there right on time, which is usually just fine and we get a pretty good soft seat on the side of the chapel. However, they were re-doing the gym and had it all closed off so all the people that usually sit way the in the back were up in all the good seats on the side. We had to walk in front of everyone and share a big bench with another family. But really thats not so bad. Shay was funny with her Snacks during sacrament. First off, she's not allowed to have any food until after the sacrament is over, so thats always fun trying to explain to a 2 year old why her treats have to wait...Then she was eating some wafer cookies and turned her back to them. I thought she was done so I closed them ant put them back in the bag. She turned around and saw that they were gone, looked at me and Zack with an opened mouth (Zack had his arm around me), then said, quite upset and serious, "DAD!" and Zack, of course, egged it on by "punking out" and said, "WHAT?!" Shay kept all her seriousness and said,"Cookies closed no-no!" Zack couldn't keep a straight face and we all laughed. She didn't let him get near her "cookies" again. Kade slept through Sacrament meeting. When it was time to clean up to go to sunday school I told shay it was time for nursery. She's had some stress going to nursery so her response was, "get car go home, okay mommy?" I told her the car was gone and since we couldn't find it we had to go to nursery. She thought for a second then said, "Okay, I walk home, okay mommy? Come on." We smiled at that! She threw a tantrum the whole way there but stayed! Half way through sunday School Kade woke up and, very loudly told us all that he was poopy and hungry. By the time I was done feeding him and got back to the room they were saying the closing prayer. Relief society, I was in there maybe ten minutes before I was told that Shay needed me. She had pooped in her pull ups...(I'm so sick of poop!) I had to find Zack so he could take car of Kade while I took care of Shay. I Walked passed all the men in the ward during priesthood because he, of course, didn't notice me trying to get his attention! Took care of Shay, who was very excited this time to go back to nursery, then went to find Zack to get Kade back (I had all his stuff). The men had moved to different rooms and I couldn't find him. So instead of wandering around looking for him, I just gave myself a little break and went back to relief society :) Turns out, Kade was perfect for Zack (of course he was...just how it has to happen!). I was pretty worn out though by the time we got home. I was so happy to sit on a soft couch. Zack had a meeting right after church so I took the kids home, put them down for naps, then took one myself! (YAY for me!) Long day.
Today we went to Zacks school library where they have a neat room to take kids in and you can still work on school stuff. Zack worked on his portfolio (senior project due wednesday) and I found Zack jobs and applied for them! Mayer Arizona is the one I'm excited about at the current moment! Shaylie watched Tangled on the big screen and tried to sleep while other kids played around her. It was an exhausting day, but I feel like we didn't get much done...Justin and Caitlin stopped by this evening and Zack justin and Shaylie went to Home Depot to get moving boxes (just getting ahead of the stress!). Caitlin Kade and I talked. It was nice to vent and get to know her better. She's a sweet heart! We also skyped for a little bit with my family this afternoon. I love seeing them (best part of my day!) only 16 more days until my mom comes! YaY!

Zack's Post "last day"

Yesterday was my last day student teaching and it was a great day but a sad day all in one. I will miss teaching the Kids and my cooperating teachers Mr. Alexander and Mr. Robbins. Both men are great teachers and have taught me a lot. I am excited to know that now i can have my own classroom and search for a job with all the energy i had use to prepare my lesson plans. I did not teach yesterday at all, i just sat back and went through my teachers stuff and made copies of any thing i could use. After school i came home and sent off an application for a position in Vernal UT. but i have plenty of more places to send applications. I also still have to finish my senior project and turn it in on Wednesday then i will have everything i need to get my teaching licences. Guess i know what i will be doing all weekend! I know that my biggest support has been my wife Mandi and that is why i love her so much.

Kissing boo-boos

Today Shay was swinging a toy around and it accidently hit the wall. She's been very emotional lately and was quite distraught by what happened and very concerned about the wall. I didn't quite know what to say to her. She kept "hugging" the wall (while crying) and saying, "I sorry, I sorry, I sorry." I was also trying very hard not to laugh. Then, she suddenly stopped said "oh, I got it." Grabbed my hand, pulled over to the wall and said, "here mom, kiss it!" I about busted a gut! Of course I did kiss the wall and that seemed to make everything better! Yay for the power of a mommy's kiss!

She was also darling yesterday with Zack. He had been called and asked to go help someone give a blessing. He had changed his clothes and tying his tie when Shay came up to him and said, "Oh, look so cute Daddy!" It totally caught Zack off guard! When he asked her what she just said she replied with, "clothes on daddy cute!" I was once again trying not to laugh and told her it was a very nice thing to day. She's a perfect lady, now if only we could get her to use the potty better... :)

Zack finished his last day of classes as an undergraduate yesterday! YAY! While he was in class the kids and I waited in the childrens room of the University library. Zack was very energetic and excited on the way home. It had finally dawned on him that he was done. He has a meeting next week to drop off his portfolio to his professor and has one more day of student teaching then its all over! We're very excited! I spent half the night on the couch last night because I put Kade in his swing to sleep. This morning I woke up at 7:05 surprised I hadn't heard zack leave (he leaves at 7) I looked out the window and both cars were still there, and there wasn't a sound in the house. I figured Zack had slept in (since he had the whole bed to himself) and I called to him to wake him up. I heard a bunch of mumbling/stumbling going on and then "Oh, Crap!" He was up, ready and gone in 5 minutes...wish it were that easy for me! Guess he's just excited about being done he celebrated by sleeping in!

What a week so far!

Its wednesday today, and what a past two days it has been! Shay and I have been sickly with this runny nose sore throat (but not coughing!) thing. I"m thinking i'm about 2 days behind Shay because she's doing great today and I'm...blahh...like she has been. I'm nervous Kade has a little bit of it too. Just a stuffy nose. I have to suck it out with the bulb and he hates it! Zack runs to a school and seems to avoid all the germs of our house. Lucky him. Shay has been a stinker this week. She's saying No quite a bit now and cries ALL THE TIME. PMS starting early...I've been complaining about it to Zack, who didn't believe me, then yesterday she showed him her true colors. It caught him off guard. We thought we'd escaped this phase, but its here in all its glory. She still has moments of being darling though. Yesterday morning I was laying in bed (totally exhausted from the night with Kade), and she walked in with two little Kit Kat bars. I told her she couldn't have any until after breakfast. She climbed up on my bed and generously handed me one saying, "here mom, two, I share." I couldn't resist! We shared our chocolate in bed together. We've had some major potty training issues this week and we're kind of stumped on why and what to do. She was doing so good, we're not really sure what happened! Crossing our fingers that things turn around soon in that area! Kade is a handful for someone so small. I only say that because I dont remember having this much night time stress with Shaylie. I"m up most the night and dont really know how I manage to function during the day. On Monday, zack was nice enough to take Shay out and about while I laid down. However, that was cut short what *someone* decided it was time to eat. He's growing like a weed and I'm sure thats because he eats constantly. I just keep telling myself that its helping me lose weight faster! I did start my exercise stuff on Monday and I'm quite sore. I did the Ab Ripper on Monday (P90x) and tuesday I did Zumba. I also started my new birth control (which I'm actually quite nervous about!) and almost forgot it yesterday. But i'm super paranoid about getting pregnant again. My mom says I need a surprise in there, mainly because I"m so Fussy about this stuff. But I'd like to think that my 'surprise' was being farther a long with Kade than we originally thought!
On the Job front, I spent most of the day yesterday on the computer looking for jobs for Zack. I found 28 which he will be applying for today when he gets home from Student Teaching (even I give him home work!). I'm still crossing my fingers for that job in Star Valley Wyoming though. It turns out Zacks University supervisor has connections up there so Zack called him yesterday to talk to him about it. Turns out the 'connection' was right there with him! They were doing something so they called Zack back about 10 minutes later. The 'connection' (who I only know as John) talked with Zack for a bit, getting to know him and why he want to work up there and all that fun stuff. I guess he used to work on the board and knows a bunch of people. He told Zack he'd call them that night and put in a good word. I was ecstatic! He also called the District to see if he had all his application stuff in and they said he was good to go that we'd know by friday if they wanted to interview with him again! I was so giddy about it! I"m trying not get excited but...how can you not?! Kind of scary that things are actually happening!! I of course had to tell my mom all about what was happening and shay said that providence was at work, we agree! Zack Said he "suddenly" had the thought to call his supervisor...how cool is that!? So glad I have a husband is in tune enough to recognize divine intervention :) He'll totally done Student teaching in two days! I think I'm more excited than he is!

Shays Saturday

My little 2 year old is wonderful but a bit of a stinker sometimes. Story of the day today: Shaylie wanted a fruit snack (her favorite treat). I told her she had to wait until a little later before I would open it. I was feeding Kade and Shay left the room. I heard little noises coming from the back bed room and kept calling to Shay but she was ignoring me. She finally came out and, proudly showing me her now opened fruit snack said, "I cut it Mom!" She had made a perfect cut across the top of the fruit snack. I was shocked! She was so excited about it and later told Nana, while skyping that she cut it with the purple scissors (her favorite color). Luckily she didn't cut anything else!

The Weekend: Friday

On to Friday! I finally got a picture of my little Kade smiling. He is smiling more and more but stops when I bring out the camera. He's fascinated by it. Shay, Kade and I also went on a nice little walk and I thought they looked so cute all bundled up. Walks are good way to spend the day until Daddy comes home.

The Weekend

I'll start off the weekend on Thursday. Zack was asked to play soccer with some other teachers at Payson High School against the boys soccer team for practice. I got my kiddos ready to go watch him. Funny story about getting ready: I had everything in the car except my people and Shaylie was sitting on the potty taking her sweet time. I called to her and said, "You need to hurry Shay or I'm going to leave you!" Her response made me giggle, "Okay, I'm pushing Mom!" Once we got to the school, we watched Zack play for a little but then he started complaining that his feet hurt. We didn't know how bad until he took his shoes off and we saw the lovely blisters. Guess thats what he gets for thinking he could play in shoes he wore in High School. :) Poor thing!
